BACK TO BASIC BED TIME!

Hi good morning welcome to classy classics by Kandis. I am a stay at home mom of 4 children ages 12 down to the age of two!

If this is the first time you’ve ever read one of my blogs hi, I am a basic, planner loving, routine needed mother. I love a good routine, great coffee and sitting down playing with planner trying to see if I can get my ducks in a row! Lol.

With school back in I needed to really get back into our night routine. This is actually an important factor I have been learning as I was trying to implement a nice bedtime routine for when my older kids went back to school and my daughter was still sleeping in until why I don’t even know when.

Do you have a night routine?

I try to be flexible with mine but I try to be consistent at the same time it’s a hard balance for me but I am trying.

I thought what better time then to sit down and write out a new routine or a evening routine then here then for a blog talk.

I found that summer was a different summer this year I’m not sure quite what it was or maybe it is just that I was busy and my brain had to be a little more flexible this year then some years but it definitely seemed to be a quick, dry go get it year.

My bedtime routine or my evening routine goes from the hours of somewhere between about 7 and 9 p.m. I have been trying to get the younger kids to bed a little earlier than 9:00 but they sure fight me on it they’ve always kind of gone to bed at 9 but, that’s just a little late for mommy sometimes. But, it might have to stay close to 9 depending on how smooth everything ends up going.

How to start!

The first thing I like to do when choosing a new routine is to figure out the top priorities of that time!

The top things that I know I had to have in the evening routine is:

  • Table cleared
  • dishes done and dishwasher started
  • kids cleaning or zone cleaning chores
  • snack
  • Teeth
  • Pajamas
  • bed time story

I will always but in even the most basic tasks as they do need to be done and they do take time!

This is the ideas that I had included in the 2 hours that is set out for the “evening routine”.

How do you set out a new routine?

This is something I will set out as a sample hourly set up, as the nights go on it will be easier to see what works when and, what might need to be moved or swapped with something else!

The nice thing about a routine is that you set it! You create it! You can change it to however works beat for your family!

The biggest mistake when trying to create a routine is to try to just do someone else’s. Now, it’s awesome to use the idea or outline but, don’t be scared to change it! It’s your routine make it yours! Not everybody’s lifestyle and hours are the same!

Find what outline works best for you and go from there!

Does a hourly work?

Maybe try a block system!

Maybe a schedule vs a routine!

The best way to start is to find the top 3-5 things that are top priority for you and build from there!

It’s just paper it’s all able to be edited or revamped!

I know that my routines will need to be worked on through the winter! There is definitely different chores as the seasons change!

I look forward to the new routines coming in with the new school year coming in!

If you would like to join me in the following weeks with the routines let me know! Like the blog, leave a comment, or just join the fun!

Back To School Prep!

Hi good morning, happy Monday! How is your weekend? How is your week?

Can you believe not in about a week the kids are going back to school! In Saskatchewan in my division like the kids go back to school September 2nd. My toddler is starting play school but, he doesn’t start until the beginning of October.

When does school start where you are?

I have 4 kids, 12, 10, 4 and 2! It gets to be a bit full in the mornings here ok, let’s be honest it’s bananas here ALL THE TIME! lol!

I feel there is a couple things that definitely make back to school prepping easier, so why not get my butt in gear and get going on all the fun of back to school!

This year my oldest is going into grade 7, it is exciting for her as in our school we don’t have a different school for “Junior High” there is a different hallway, a different side of the school for these grades.

There was definitely a little bit of a difference this year in school supplies as one kid is still classed as elementary he is in grade 6 this year and then of course my daughter is going into junior high.

I find some of these back to school supplies to be quite a lengthy list, which is fine I get it you need stuff for school I remember those days of needing all sorts of stuff also trying to throw some really cool stuff into the cart. So, when my kids are wanting to get some really funky stuff depending on what it is we definitely try to compromise.

This year when we started thinking about back to school I asked the kids if we could reuse some stuff. Then the kids were going to start downstairs.

Now, they started downstairs because I ended up the de-clutter a bunch of my living room stuff and all of my back to school supplies went downstairs into a dresser.

This is where my children started we had their list and I shood them down stairs and just told them where to go look and what to look for.

I was thrilled when they agreed to start in our overflow area if you will because, my one kid needed seven binders let alone everything else. So, I will tell you we saved a big chunk of money just by sorting through what we could down stairs.

Those duatangs and notebooks that they need like how many of, I just get my kids, too rip off the front pages and use one of those because they never use a full one anyways.

This is how I try to cut is much pennies out of the list I could for at least the start of the year.

Do you have left over school supplies send that with the kids before you go and buy stuff?

Now I have stuff up here in the arts and craft section that is not the same as what I am passing off as my back-to-school section. Back-to-school time is also great time to stock up on arts and crafts supplies, maybe stuff for Christmas you can always throw a pack of crayons it was stocking or wrap it up with a colouring book and boom you have a great present for a little kid.

When it came to school clothes this year I had the kids come in and pick out their clothes but, they also were required to take the time to try them on!

My son is definitely needed more than my daughter for school clothes. It is hard because we don’t have much kid clothes stores around me anymore. I was ordering a lot of their clothes long time for that matter. However, they were in that size that I would buy them something and they would fit fine for by Christmas if it’s too small. But, with the prices of everything I was not about to do that this round. I also find that there is more options for girls than boys.

We got all the clothes almost part found fitted, washed and ready to go for school. My son was mad at me because I wouldn’t let him wear his new clothes before school lol. At least he likes them right!

School is back in here in about a week. I am really torn about when to start having the kids get up and get in the habit of their morning routines.

The next thing that I think I’m going to start getting prepped for is a school routine.

When do you start getting your kids back into the school routine swing?

My kids are on a bus, and so we really only have so much wiggle room before they actually have to just be ready to go versus when we lived in town it didn’t really matter it took him five minutes to get to school and that was all there was.

So, now they have to be able to get up make their beds, get ready and have some breakfast too fill up their tummy for the bus ride to school.

With the school supplies bought, sorted and labeled this is definitely a the starting point that I wanted to be at war was hoping to be at for the start of the week. I told my kids they would be getting up early in earlier everyday to start getting ready for school. They don’t have to do it right away or everyday but they will be getting up and everyday a little earlier and everyday that we do something else and preparation of what they would be for when they do for school.

This is the start to my back-to-school prep!

If you want to join in the back to school routine that I will be starting if you want to see and read a little bit about that let me know I would love to do that blog.

It would be a nice way to start setting up all of the routines that’ll need to be fixed up for winter.
