CLASSIC SHEPHERD’S PIE!

Hello, and good morning!
Happy Monday! How was your weekend I hope you had a great week!
There is so much that is changing at this time of year, the birds are making their homes, the sun is shining in between when we are getting snow here in Saskatchewan!
Where are you from? How is your weather are you having a normal spring? You having one like we are here in Saskatchewan where it is super nice one day and then it is super cold and snowing the next!
I should be used to it by now I have always lived in Saskatchewan but, it doesn’t make it any easier when you have cabin fever and you were just itching to get out.
It also doesn’t help that I don’t like the cold, and so on the cold days we stay inside and do extra laundry LOL!
So, with the week that we had there was definitely a couple cool days in there and on cool days why not make a good old shepherd’s pie!
Growing up I don’t really remember having Shepherds pie! I made it years ago when I was pulling us out of debt, and really really watching our grocery bill! We also only had two kids when I had started the budgeting, which makes a big difference but that’s not the point.
Shepherd’s pie I find to be one of the best budget friendly meals you can make I will make extra and freeze leftovers really easy! I find shepherd’s pie is really nice because you can pre cut the pieces and freeze them individually, you can do a pan and just freeze the pan and all you have to do is heat it up in the oven! It is a wonderful family and budget-friendly meal!
I thought I would take you a long and show you how I make shepherd’s pie in this house for on those colder days or on those tighter months!
WHAT YOU NEED:
- ground beef
- diced onions
- diced peppers
- garlic
- mixed vegetables
- potatoes (mashed)
- grated cheese
- spices…. salt, pepper, parsley…. what ever you want in it
You’re going to cook the ground beef, add the onions peppers and garlic and fry them together. Then add the mixed vegetables if you are using Frozen and let them simmer and unthaw with the meat.
Peel and boil the potatoes, strain add butter and milk and mash. Do you think you can put two aside until you were ready.
You are going to put the ground beef mixture into the bottom of a pan would ever say the pan when you’re making. Add mashed potatoes and spread them on top evenly top with as much cheese as you want as it does melt down quite a lot.
Preheat oven to 350 and bake for about 20 to 30 minutes until the cheese is brown and bubbly.
If you were making into a freezer meal simply at aluminum foil to the top but your label on.
If you do not have time to unthaw it before you go to cook it next time that is okay all I want you to do is keep the foil on, put the pan into the oven while it is preheating and add about 45 minutes to it.
This is one of the easiest freezer meals that I have done. You can make tons and stack them in your freezer they are good for up to six months in your freezer if properly covered and stored.
It’s the perfect time of year to start getting my freezer cleaned out and stocked up for summer with some summer meals! I’m going to try my hardest to blog as much of it for you guys as I can.

EASTER FUN!
Good morning! Hoppy Easter!
🎵Here comes Peter cotton tail, hopping down the bunny trail!🎵
Easter I think is such a cute time of year, I like the years when there isn’t a ton of snow still but, in Saskatchewan all you can do is wait and see!
There’s not a whole lot going on for Easter this year, I assume that’s going to be a good normal for most people this year!
I am definitely looking forward to the Easter Bunny, there is just so many different fun things to do, and who doesn’t love a holiday that you can have the children go and find hidden goodies and, keep themyour hair for a couple minutes!
This year I am not over filling those baskets with chocolate, I am trying more homemade goodies, and more toys vs candy in their baskets!
There is so many yummy treats to make, with little time for it!
I love to themed stuff, if I can theme everything I will and I would! So, when it comes to Easter of course everything needs to be carrots!
This year I am hoping to make of course the classic carrot cake, carrots and cream cheese sandwich cookies, they are absolutely delicious and like an Oreo for Easter!
In the past I have made homemade Kinder eggs, those are a lot of fun to make they were definitely time-consuming but I will leave some pictures or when I did that down below!
What are you planning to do for Easter baskets this year?
Do you do more treats from the bunny, or more toys from the bunny and treats from the kitchen?
I usually get more than what I need, when I head into that Dollar Tree it is so easy to get ahead of myself that it gets a little crazy at times!
It can be easier to have extra stuff on hand, most days where I may be threw a couple too many things in the cart as you never know when you’re going to need a dollar store goody!
When I had went in last time to get more Easter decorations, as I realized I really have no decorations! They didn’t have a whole lot, whether they were already running out at the store that I went to or that there just isn’t as much little stuff for Easter!
I do find that some holidays if you want almost need to do more crafts for them then we will go and find a little knick-knacks!
Maybe it’s just my store and the timing oh, I do know that each of the Dollar Trees that I go to weather in the same city or the other city that I go to I bounce between two, definitely carry some different stuff!
Let’s get baking now I guess!
