BLOCK SYSTEM

Hello, and good morning! Welcome back to another routine blog here at Classy Classics By Kandis! It is funny that there is so many ways to have a routine, and yet here I am with all of them lol. If you can tell I like to have a good routine and a nice plan in place!

There is something about knowing what should get done, to what needs to be done, but knowing that there is a spot still for my stuff or for extra time.

This system can make you very productive in a day, and can help in so many ways, this is set out to work like you would in school. With a block for everything in your day! It is from Jordan Page!

I will leave a link to the youtube video here for you to watch.

https://youtu.be/2BKuSlstIBM

I had seen this one back when I was setting up my routines after life got busy with kids. If you were following along with the other routine blogs, you seen how the morning, afternoon, and evening routines were set up.

Did you see them?

I will link them here, go have a read on how I set up my routines!

A GOOD DAY STARTS WITH A GOOD MORNING ROUTINE!

HOW I KEEP UP WITH THE HOUSE USING ZONE CLEANING!

AFTERNOON ROUTINE.. DON’T FORGET THE COFFEE!

How does the BLOCK SYSTEM work!

The block system is a amazing way to take your routines and place them in the day. This is so you will not over work one place, you won’t lose your day, and you won’t get sucking into a distractive loop at random times of the day.

This is set up works like it sounds in blocks. This is work like school did, lots of ladies will set their alarms for the blocks too.

I don’t have alarms, I have my block system set up well for now anyways in large blocks.

There is a set time in between your blocks, which are set around your ROUTINES!

This will optimize your routine and time! Each block is a task, like a subject in school. The day is broke up into the blocks that you need.

Remember this is your day, and your tasks no one else’s. There will be chunked blocks with set topics to work with, to make each task have a time to work in.

Morning routine, work time, coffee time, pick up kids it all has times. You don’t want to be stuck doing something when you should have been on a meeting call! Got sucked into Facebook and suddenly, all the kids are hungry, and you forgot to pull out the meat.

This will help you in staying productive but being flexible at the same time. This will have as many or as little blocks as you need for your day or schedule.

I have 3 main blocks that in time will get more detailed as other situations get ironed out in my life.

HOW TO SET UP THE BLOCK SYSTEM

When it comes to setting up the block system all you need is a paper, pen and motivation.

It will help in putting together is you have some of your daily routines in place.

Well I found it easier that is. The block system is made to work with you, this is how I set up mine.

Let me know what you think?

Did you set your up different?

How are you setting up your block system?

Take your piece of paper, and make 3 sections in it, morning, noon and evening. Then under those sections write the times that are for that section.

The way I section mine is like this!

My morning is from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm Afternoon is from 12:00 to about 6:00 pm Evening is 6:00pm to 11:00 pm

This is the “work” time I have for the house. When it comes to my block system this is where your life will make things different from anyone’s block system.

I have my block system set up as this because I am a stay at home mom, I work from home, and as of right now for a bit we are also doing the remote learning from the school!

I have 2 kids that are in school and 2 kids that are little. This is a reason that I will always point out that your routine may look much different from mine!

I had to keep in mind that I have a lot that happens in a block with all the kids being home, that I need to remember to not have a hourly timer as it may take me longer to start the task than originally planned and so I might only get 10 minutes vs 30 minutes.

I made my block system this way so that I can find my heavy work times, and I can find the rests easy when planning out my day or week.

This allows me to put my routines in, with some decluttering and deep cleaning, but also have work time and me time.

It will all come together, and you will see where your times are on your own schedule.

MAKING IT WORK FOR YOU!

The great thing about making a block system is that you are making one from a fresh piece of paper. There is no distraction on how “others” may be using it.

So, let’s talk making the most of the system, where, how and when to make it. My block system like I said is needing to be revamped a little, and what better time than after the routines got fixed.

I have not added in the detailed times on my block system and I’m not sure I will this round.

What do I mean?

My block system has big time chunks on it!

With a time, chunk of 6:00 am to 12:00 pm, it’s a bit too much. So instead of making an hourly that I know will not go as detailed as my mind would like it here I have it chunked into 3-hour chunks.

So now my morning time block as 2 blocks! 6:00 am – 9:00 am 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.

The same is for the afternoon and evening times!

This now looks not as crazy as looking at a time frame that as 12 hours in it for only one block!

THAT WOULDN’T MAKE MY ANXIETY GO CRAZY!

So, a 3-hour window is much easier for me to work with! Does that make sense on why I chunk it vs doing an hourly?

Don’t be afraid to make changes, erase some tasks, add some, move them around. Don’t make one section of your day too full, there is lots of hours, lots of chunks in the day!

When I chunk mine, it helps I made my block system this way so that I can find my heavy work times, and I can find the rests easy when planning out my day or week.

This allows me to put my routines in, with some decluttering and deep cleaning, but also have work time and me time. It will all come together, and you will see where your times are on your own schedule.

The great thing about making a block system. Don’t make one section of your day too full, there is lots of hours, lots of chunks in the day! When I chunk mine, it helps calm my mind!

WHERE TO PUT WHAT IN THE BLOCKS!

When it comes to placing your tasks into the blocks, you choose what goes where!

You need to figure out what tasks NEED to be done and when.

Start there!

I know that my first block from 6:00 am – 9:00 am is for my work and getting the kids ready for class! That is all that there is really for there.

So, this section could be placed more on an hourly base to make sure I don’t spend too long in one spot.

My example is:

6:00am- Wake up for me, coffee and me time 6:30am- work on blog

7:00am-7:30am- littles are usually getting up, breakfast and snuggles I will also work in my planner here as I can’t use the computer easily around my toddler haha.

8:00am- get big kids up and moving

8:30am- big kids ready for class

9:00am big kids start online class I will start my morning routine if I have not got a change to start it!

Just like that my first part to my morning block is over and hopefully done. If you see this is why I will use big chunks for my block system as if or when something does not work out for the time frame its ok, there is time and spots to put in the task that could not be done there!

I don’t want to me working on something when I need to be getting the kids ready, or I don’t want to feel bad when I didn’t get the dished washed after breakfast because a kid needed help with the computer!

This is just a good way to prioritize some of the chores and stuff you need to do without running wild for the entire day! It is a great way to add stuff into your day, when you know when your slower times are!

Maybe make that play date in the afternoon when your blocks are not as full, this way you know when you are more free when these things come up, but also you are not rearranging your whole day to make that plan work.

This is a win, win situation!

So that is the block system in a glance!

What do you think?

Give it a try?

Do you already use a block system?

Do you have your routines in it?

How do you set up your block system?

I hope you enjoyed this blog, and hopefully gave you some motivation!

CLASSIC SHEPHERD’S PIE!

Hello, and good morning!

Happy Monday! How was your weekend I hope you had a great week!

There is so much that is changing at this time of year, the birds are making their homes, the sun is shining in between when we are getting snow here in Saskatchewan!

Where are you from? How is your weather are you having a normal spring? You having one like we are here in Saskatchewan where it is super nice one day and then it is super cold and snowing the next!

I should be used to it by now I have always lived in Saskatchewan but, it doesn’t make it any easier when you have cabin fever and you were just itching to get out.

It also doesn’t help that I don’t like the cold, and so on the cold days we stay inside and do extra laundry LOL!

So, with the week that we had there was definitely a couple cool days in there and on cool days why not make a good old shepherd’s pie!

Growing up I don’t really remember having Shepherds pie! I made it years ago when I was pulling us out of debt, and really really watching our grocery bill! We also only had two kids when I had started the budgeting, which makes a big difference but that’s not the point.

Shepherd’s pie I find to be one of the best budget friendly meals you can make I will make extra and freeze leftovers really easy! I find shepherd’s pie is really nice because you can pre cut the pieces and freeze them individually, you can do a pan and just freeze the pan and all you have to do is heat it up in the oven! It is a wonderful family and budget-friendly meal!

I thought I would take you a long and show you how I make shepherd’s pie in this house for on those colder days or on those tighter months!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • ground beef
  • diced onions
  • diced peppers
  • garlic
  • mixed vegetables
  • potatoes (mashed)
  • grated cheese
  • spices…. salt, pepper, parsley…. what ever you want in it

You’re going to cook the ground beef, add the onions peppers and garlic and fry them together. Then add the mixed vegetables if you are using Frozen and let them simmer and unthaw with the meat.

Peel and boil the potatoes, strain add butter and milk and mash. Do you think you can put two aside until you were ready.

You are going to put the ground beef mixture into the bottom of a pan would ever say the pan when you’re making. Add mashed potatoes and spread them on top evenly top with as much cheese as you want as it does melt down quite a lot.

Preheat oven to 350 and bake for about 20 to 30 minutes until the cheese is brown and bubbly.

If you were making into a freezer meal simply at aluminum foil to the top but your label on.

If you do not have time to unthaw it before you go to cook it next time that is okay all I want you to do is keep the foil on, put the pan into the oven while it is preheating and add about 45 minutes to it.

This is one of the easiest freezer meals that I have done. You can make tons and stack them in your freezer they are good for up to six months in your freezer if properly covered and stored.

It’s the perfect time of year to start getting my freezer cleaned out and stocked up for summer with some summer meals! I’m going to try my hardest to blog as much of it for you guys as I can.

Do you like shepherd’s pie?

How do you make shepherd’s pie?

Hope you like easy recipes, fast cleaning tips, just day-to-day mom tips and tricks make sure.

A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY!

Hi and good morning! Happy Monday! I can’t believe how fast the week went by! Maybe it’s the time of year, maybe it’s the busy spring vibes! Whatever it is I’m hoping it slows down during the summer months!

With being a full time mom of 4 kids, a wife and home maker, days can tend to blur together, some days seem to last FOREVER!

I am trying to enjoy what life is throwing my way and enjoy the stage that’s I am in!

The stage where there is toys everywhere, followed with crumbs, clothes and something sticky!

I have been finding myself with blocking more and more time out for walks around the yard, kicking the ball and of coarse yard clean up! Always something to clean lol!

Something that I have recently started doing is blocking out more but shorter “tidy times”! As I’ve been learning more on how long certain chores take it makes it easier to set certain chores to certain times!

Let me explain what I mean! If I have a 20 minute window to do something before something else is set up then I will try to do either 4…5 minute tasks or I will do a bigger 20-30 minute task!

This has made it a little easier for me to break up whatever is zone that I am working in for that week into smaller bits throughout the week instead of trying to do more than what I need to do in the zone!

I can sometimes I actually get more done in a week in a certain area if I break it into smaller bits throughout the whole week! Instead of working for say an hour each day in the zone, where are some tasks that I’m trying to do that day won’t take an hour and I could actually be spending the rest of that time doing something else instead of being in that zone!

I have a couple blogs about zone cleaning I will leave linked down below! I love Zone cleaning I have done it for years now and it’s just a really nice way to break up your house and break up your chores to stay on top of everything just a little easier!

When I happen to have a chore or a zone that I cannot do with the littles or as easy, I will then try to do my other quicker tasks and easier tasks while they are up, then I take nap time for a bigger chores!

This is another reason why learning time frames for tasks was a little important for me!

With doing it this way, it really made me see how quick I could get some of the stuff actually done! To try to learn to break it up into bits and pieces this is when I can go from doing a quick 10-15 minute clean too quick 30 minute house clean!

When I mean with this is that say I am vacuuming the upstairs stairs, and everything is going okay kids are still playing good. I can then maybe vacuum Mason’s room that’s another five minutes if it’s picked up already oh, maybe I’ll try to vacuum my room that is one of the quickest rooms to vacuum it doesn’t have carpet but I like getting into whatever corners I can. Maybe everything keeps going good and then I can just keep on going well all of a sudden just like that all of the vacuuming is done in less time then telling myself to tackle “the whole house”.

This is were my routines also come in nice! I find this helps me not worrying about doubling the chore either!

Take the evening routine! I find this one probably the most important one too keep!

I find myself not as ancy about chores that I know will be part of the routine! If I need to clean the kitchen, I will take more time tackling other deeper cleaning tasks instead of do basic chores that I know will happen anyways later! Just a different way to help with times and chores!

There is so many things happening with summer coming but, with getting little bit done here and there is a good way for this house to learn to break up the day, and chores to make room for outside life!

I have routine blogs that I will link! I change my routines lots in the year! Depending on the time of year depends on the routine! For the most part they keep the same idea some chores change but the timeline is what can really change of course!

I am learning it doesn’t matter what time of the day the floors get done, or when the sinks get shined! These tasks will be there until I find that 5 minutes to get them in, or wait till the routine time!

“Little by little, task by task, it will a get done”

I hope this helps in finding time for those tasks!

Waiting for supper? Fold some laundry, clean out that junk drawer while your there! A little goes along way!

I will link my Instagram and Facebook! There is always fun there, with daily day to day mom life!

Until next week

Have a great day, a wonderful weekend and a productive week!

Bye for now!

FINDING BALANCE!

Good morning happy Monday! Welcome to another week!

How is your week last week?

Have we been getting through spring cleaning and getting ready to bust outside, we had a fire ban on here in Saskatchewan and then it snowed overnight!

I’m not sure if spring is here yet! Well calendar wise yes, weather sometimes lol!

The last couple weeks I’ve been finding myself a little disappointed in myself!

I am a stay-at-home mom of 4 kids, 2 that go to school and 2 that still stay at home. I have been married for 15 years!

I have been struggling the last couple weeks to find balance in all of my stuff.

Let me explain this to you, it’s does not have to do with how my house chores and/or role that I play in this house, I have been trying to focus on getting back onto my meal planning and fitness!

Oh, have you noticed that prices of groceries are going up? I have noticed that it’s hard to get everything that you need, and be able to afford it the same time.

This is one thing that I’ve been trying to get better with again is being a much more frugal home-based mom. I had really thrived with this before for my third pregnancy and some into my fourth pregnancy!

After the move that we did, things got a little hard and I tended to pull from a box a lot more, this is a hard habit to get back into this planning and not pull from that box or just make macaroni!

Another thing that I feel that I am lacking in is health of myself! I struggled with my weight for many years this is not something that has been traumatizing to me but I am very proud that I had never been in as good shape as I am now and I’ve had four kids and being out of school for over 10 years, I had found a lot of excitement of working out and eating better when my second child was younger!

And, now I’m sitting here I can hardly get myself to drink water, I had done some workouts the other month, trying to get into it again and the only time that I kind of have motivation and time to be able to do it at night!

This is fine except for summer is coming and it’s really hard to do that when you have little kids and an entire family with summer coming!

So I’ve been kind of hard on myself not knowing how to achieve my stuff blah blah blah.

I then decided, you know what my third kid is going to start play school soon my last kid still takes naps, and so I feel then I should not be trying to push myself to the point where I feel so bad that I can’t do it not because I’m just too lazy but I am busy right up till like 9:30 at night.

So instead of being angry with myself I’m trying to take a different spin on it.

I thought I would focus little more on basic health!

With this set of trying to force myself to workout until the time is right I really that sounds like an excuse but…

I thought I would try to focus on my water intake and simply just work on some stretching, and to try to really focus on what I am eating!

To eat healthy is something that I’m trying to work on. I am a fairly active mom obviously chasing 4 kids. However remember the kicker is that abs are actually made in the kitchen!

It is really hard for me to try to start something and not go full in, I’m trying to focus on the little things to make my way to the big things!

It’s just the time of the season for the kids and myself and I have to keep in mind with in a couple years it’s all going to be different again! They will not always be here and my babies!

With new goals for a bit, as summer is rolling in, I am excited about trying to take a step back on everything, fold a couple towels to put down for now and take it slower!

What are some clean eating foods you like?

I think it’s fun trying new easy foods, to get the ball rolling!

Hope you liked the blog! Want some healthy motivation?

Make sure to follow my social media pages I will have links below!

Until next week

Have a great day, a wonderful weekend and a productive week!

FINDING MOTIVATION!

Hi good morning!

Happy Monday! How was your week last week?

It has been busy in the household, getting spring cleaning done I’m trying to get my seeds as big and strong as I can for the garden, it can be really hard not to burn out before I even get out of bed!

Do you ever have the problems with just not having motivation?

I find if I don’t do certain things in the day I definitely lose motivation quicker than other days!

I thought I would share some ways that I try to find some extra motivation on days that I don’t want motivation!

There are definitely a couple tips and tricks that I have found through the years that has helped me friend that motivation and get up off your butt and get something done.

One of the first things that I find is a nice motivation enhancer is getting up, making my bed, getting dressed and washed up!

This just helps me wake up and be able to enjoy my coffee a little more!

When I have lack of motivation and fine just doing some of my basic housework tends to wake me up a little more to try to get some bigger tasks done.

No matter what our daily tasks that need to be done, these are all put into routines of mine and are almost not even chores anymore.

Looking for extra motivation I will clear the counters, clean up the sink, sweep the floor don’t forget to wipe that table.

These are all little things that I find make a big difference and how the house looks, and so then when I am lacking energy to do a bigger task to see the end result of just these little daily tasks and how much it makes a difference definitely it will give me extra motivation to do a bigger task that I don’t want to do! Knowing that it’s going to just be done then and it’s going to be so satisfying when it is done!

I needed to realize that I didn’t need to be on my hands and knees or polishing everything all the time, and this is where I have found some of my quick clean tools to be a lifesaver!

With this I love my environment cloths from norex all it takes is water and it disinfects the surface! With a little swish swoop and is all clean!

I will run my Robo around the house to pick up some crumbs while I am sweeping some corner, and then I still have a task being done without feeling bad about spending extra time on a bigger task!

I love breaking my tasks up into smaller chores, this will make it seem that is not as big of a task and it’s okay if it’s not going to get done in one day! I break my cleaning up into zones and so my fuller focus is on that zone of the week!

This way I can do the ceilings in the living room one week and maybe do the dusting in windows, and then the next time that my living room zone comes into play I know I don’t have to be washing walls and deep cleaning corners because maybe that was already done the last round in the zone!

I have to tell myself that not every room needs to be completely top-to-bottom scrubbed all the time oh, that’s silly like who would think that!

Another thing to try to find motivation is to not look for it all the time, there is nothing wrong with sitting down having a cup of coffee putting your feet up oh, maybe just watching the show! I know for me that when I sit down I seem to think I sat a lot longer than what I did and then I find a little extra motivation to get up and going on that task!

Don’t over do it in one day, you don’t need to do a hundred tasks plus your daily tasks, there are some days where all I will do is my basics and then maybe the next day I will do twice as much deep cleaning as what I was going to!

The kicker with the dust and dirt is unfortunately it’ll be there when you get to it. I have been waiting for little fairies to come and clean my house at night for years I have looked in every corner of my house looking for the easy Button, I can’t find it!

My point to the blog is it’s not always easy to find motivation, but there are things that you can do to help find that motivation!

So, if you’re feeling a little slugging get up off that couch and go make your bed, throw a load of laundry in and get those dishes put away!

Right there you will feel so much better, you will look around and find your motivation to get that nagging tasks done that you didn’t want too.

However, remember most big gross tasks once you get it done it’s done!

I hope this is help you find a little motivation the other days, let’s get our houses ready for summer and get ready to bust out start cleaning our yards LOL!

Make sure you follow my social media Pages for more day- day fun and some tips and tricks!

I will have them linked down below. Until next week I hope you have a wonderful day, a fun weekend in the productive week.

SPRING FAVORITES!

Hi, good morning! I’m glad you are here for another blog! I am too excited for spring to “actually” get here! With spring comes for fun, more outside more dirt and grim!

I thought I would use this week to show you some of my favorite spring go to things! As a busy mom of 4 Kids oh, there is always something happening, there is always mud being tracked in, one kid wants to do this one kid wants to do that!

This would all be fine except for my last two kids are still a little young! With being 4 and 2 years old they can’t quite just go and play yet unsupervised!

And so when I need to split up and conquer there are definitely some cool go to things that I have really became dependant on this time of the year! I absolutely love spring we get to bust of the house we get to go and play in puddles we get to just not be in the house 24/7, but with that comes even more!

It can sometimes be easier just to stay in the house get your stuff done have your routines and continue on with your Merry way!

However, this is not reality and the kids need to be outside once in awhile out of my hair!

So how do you balance play time and my time!

How do you get all of your stuff done, when there’s just a bigger mess being tracked in!

I definitely have a couple go to spring cleaning and organizing tricks that I would be helpful for anybody who enjoys playing in springtime!

The first thing that I have considered a necessary tool for the house, is having a spot for all of the kids has messy muddy stop to come in between play times!

Another thing that I find of an important is having a quick go to way to get some of that dirt off the floor before it gets tracked all over the entire house!

With this I have really come to love Robo vacuum and my Swiffer Sweeper!

These items are awesome because the robo vacuum I will set up an vacuum my house as we are outside playing, and like Swiffer Sweeper I love because I can just do a really really quick sweep and it will collect all of that dirt and it won’t get scattered as quick for the house!

Another thing that I I am obsessed over right now is the Norwex dusting mitt, and the dusting set!

These are wonderful the dusting that you can just put it on your hand walk around and just everything as fast as what you think, and as for the cleaning cloth set I love this to because all you need is water and I can follow along with my window cloth to do a streak free shine on the Windows!

This makes it great because I can dust top to bottom with two cloth and just walk out the door when done! There is no harsh chemicals and there is no leftover streets because you were only using water!

I recently bought a spin mop also and it’s great! I line that my floors are not streaky and very little water is left on the floors! It hold on to crumbs and works nice for us! I use just a vintage and water mix!

I also have a small bissell vacuum that can be used also as a hand vacuum! This is nice because it’s not big and heavy! This makes doing small areas or even the stairs so much easier!

When it comes to me getting spring ready I have to say I’m trying to get more me time in!

When I feel my hair needs a little extra care, I like going to some of my Monat products! I love the replenish hair masqueon days that my hairs is really need some extra love and hydration!

I also love the berry exfoliating scrub! This really helps break all the grime and dirt on my face and it takes 5 minutes that is it, it’s truly a great thing! There’s a new thing out with Monat that is the scalp scrub, then I think is very exciting because we can forger that we need a spring cleaning too!

These are definitely a handful of my favourite products right now! I definitely have a couple other cleaning tools that I am in love with, but I’m not using on necessarily a daily base!

If you want to see more of my cleaning tools, or my cleaning tips and tricks make sure check out some of the other social media pages.

I tried to do more day-to-day post on there with all sorts of mom fun! I will leave the pages linked down below!

I will also leave a link for lunate if you would like to check it out there is a quiz that you can do to see what is going to be an awesome match for you!

Until next week an amazing day, a wonderful weekend and a productive week!

EASTER FUN!

Good morning! Hoppy Easter!

🎵Here comes Peter cotton tail, hopping down the bunny trail!🎵

Easter I think is such a cute time of year, I like the years when there isn’t a ton of snow still but, in Saskatchewan all you can do is wait and see!

There’s not a whole lot going on for Easter this year, I assume that’s going to be a good normal for most people this year!

I am definitely looking forward to the Easter Bunny, there is just so many different fun things to do, and who doesn’t love a holiday that you can have the children go and find hidden goodies and, keep themyour hair for a couple minutes!

This year I am not over filling those baskets with chocolate, I am trying more homemade goodies, and more toys vs candy in their baskets!

There is so many yummy treats to make, with little time for it!

I love to themed stuff, if I can theme everything I will and I would! So, when it comes to Easter of course everything needs to be carrots!

This year I am hoping to make of course the classic carrot cake, carrots and cream cheese sandwich cookies, they are absolutely delicious and like an Oreo for Easter!

In the past I have made homemade Kinder eggs, those are a lot of fun to make they were definitely time-consuming but I will leave some pictures or when I did that down below!

What are you planning to do for Easter baskets this year?

Do you do more treats from the bunny, or more toys from the bunny and treats from the kitchen?

I usually get more than what I need, when I head into that Dollar Tree it is so easy to get ahead of myself that it gets a little crazy at times!

It can be easier to have extra stuff on hand, most days where I may be threw a couple too many things in the cart as you never know when you’re going to need a dollar store goody!

When I had went in last time to get more Easter decorations, as I realized I really have no decorations! They didn’t have a whole lot, whether they were already running out at the store that I went to or that there just isn’t as much little stuff for Easter!

I do find that some holidays if you want almost need to do more crafts for them then we will go and find a little knick-knacks!

Maybe it’s just my store and the timing oh, I do know that each of the Dollar Trees that I go to weather in the same city or the other city that I go to I bounce between two, definitely carry some different stuff!

Let’s get baking now I guess!
