Last round of February

Hello, welcome back to Its A Mom Life, let’s finish our last “love” month off shall we. This is a shorter week so the challenge will be easy! I’m hoping anyways!
With there only being 4 days left, I purpose we finish the month off strong!
This is a full money freeze! Unless you have bills that are needing to be paid or come out of an account, don’t use that money!
Put those debit and credit cards away, in a drawer, freeze them in a cup of water so you can’t grab it. Do what you have to do but don’t touch that account!
It’s only 4 days you can do it, no milk don’t have cereal, no bread improvise! You can finish the “love” month off strong and finish saving that money!
How did your month challenge go?
Did you learn any tricks with this month’s challenge?
The real question is did you notice the money you saved?

Planning The Week

Hello, happy Sunday welcome to Its A Mom Life! Sundays can be a good rest day, they can also be a good prep day!
I have always worked the best with having a list and a good game plan. When I became a mom 10 years ago now, I realized I needed a game plan, with more kids in the mix a day to day plan didn’t quit cut it anymore.
I like to plan, I had got a planner from my sister a couple years ago and I couldn’t go back. With diving into a weekly planner, it was awesome. I have a planner that has a month over look, and a weekly layout!
I look forward to sitting down and planning for my up coming week now on Sundays is when I do my weekly planning.
Do you use a planner, if so what kind do you enjoy?
The one I have now is roughly the same outline, I am still getting use to using it as it’s only been a couple months! I have used loose leaf paper, journals, and the weekly layout. I have not invested in making my own yet. This might come for next year! With this to I love a nice bright outline, this is so I can look and see the color and no what might be categorized on it. I find it handy to have a monthly over look to mark up coming events and can just refer to it when doing my weekly planning, this is helpful when it comes to kids and their activities!
I am trying to find the “perfect” way to set up and plan in the new planner. Either way there is many fun ways to plan your up coming week.
Do you use colors, stickers, categories? I would love to hear how you plan, and get some new ideas!
So, how do I do my steps when it comes to planning? I will start with coloring, this I use yellow, orange, pink, blue and green!
Then I set out and write out my labels which are a nice bold black.
Then comes to fill in the outlines parts, this includes kids stuff, zones for cleaning, and the  of coarse never ending laundry schedule!
Let me know in the comments if you would like a laundry blog and how I stay for the most part caught up on it!
The next step is to fill in my to do list. This is on the side bar now of my new planner which is different for me, but I am enjoying using the “roll over” method when it comes to some tasks!
With these steps I find my week to be more organized and less hectic as I can set out what I need to do vs what I want to be done.
Is planning part of your week to do? When do you try to plan your week? Want some more blogs like this planner one? Let me know any of this is the comments down below I would love to hear!
Till next Sunday planning blog, have fun planning and organizing your days, this can also help in finding that extra time!

How it starts!

 Add my colors !

What’s In A Name

Hi, welcome to Its A Mom Life I’m Kandis, however I normally go by: mom, mommy, mommom and mamma hahaha…. I will joke when people ask me what is name is, and reply with a questioning look with “-umm… mom, mamma, oh yes my name is Kandis! Have you ever felt this way?
I thought we could talk about mom quilt and all the roles our names play! It is an amazing feeling to be called mom, however I tend to almost forget that I am not just mom, don’t get me wrong I am not anything but happy to be called mom, but I need to remember I’m more!
I am thinking about the last time, that I went out, with the hubby, or for a girls night out! Is this something that sounds familiar!
How many times in a day I get asked where something is, my 2nd kid he now says to me ” but, you’re mom you know where it is!” How about the number of times or days I didn’t get my shower I’m because well life happened!
There is so much in my name, and I need to show all sides of it but also realize not feel bad when I just can’t fit %100 of all sides of my name in at once! I understand things and people change as there name gets more sides or roles but to try to remember the original one can be tough! Am I right?
That “mom guilt” is always there when I sit down to do something!
Moms use to unite, it seems that as the years went on, people leaned more towards a mom can do it all! We can, but just not all at once! People use to always help, big and small groups, lending hands and being a strong community! Now, we are don’t we just do it all. The supports went small and the moms role went bigger. Mom’s can be everything, but usually asked all at once!
“What’s in a name?” A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”- William Shakespeare ❤
So, don’t feel bad when you put the other names down and just be your name, go have that bath, watch the tv show, leave the dishes and play that board game with the kid’s! There is can be lots in your name but don’t forget to take care of the original one.
Mom’s are strong, but are stronger when together.
I hope this will make you think twice about trying to please everyone all at once, remember to take of you also.
Let me know what you do to keep yourself happy in the comments down below, what topics would you like to discuss for mom talk Fridays? Also don’t forget to hit that follow button to be part of Its A Mom Life!!
Till next mom talk go and enjoy finding what your name means to you!!

Chocolate Cake Yummy

Hello and welcome to Its A Mom Life, do you have a go to recipe that gets used over and over?
In this house when I go to make a cake, when it’s chocolate it’s the same one! My COCOA FUDGE cake, this is out of Betty Crocker’s cookbook new and revised edition. This was my mom’s cookbook and is still being well used. I can find this page easy as the page is full of chocolate stains!
I had used this recipie the other week for my part of my daughter’s birthday cake!
This cake is just perfect for chocolate lovers, with it being light and moist, and very easy to make, it’s a winner for everyone.
This recipe makes one oblong 13x9x2 or 2 layers, 12 cup Bundy cake or about 2 to 2 1/2 dozen cupcakes!! With that I would love to share it and hopefully it can make someone’s kiddo just as happy as mine get with this yummy cake!

  • 1 2/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup COCOA poweder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup shortening ( I use margerine)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Pre heat oven  to 350° grease pan
Beat all ingredeints together, scrapping sides of bowl, beat on high about 3 minutes until all combined. Pour into desired pans.
Bake until wooden pick comes out clean, oblong pan 35 to 40 minutes, layers is 30 to 35 minutes, Bundy cake 40 to 45 minutes.
Cool completely then frost as desired
Cupcakes: pour batter into greased or lined tin, filling about half way full, bake for 20 minutes or until wooden pick comes out clean!
That is my easy go to super yummy COCOA FUDGE cake.

Time Goes By

Have you ever set out in the morning with full intentions of doing oh so much? Just to realize that you must of blinked and the whole day is gone, as you look at that on going to do list and wonder where your time/day went! Yap I hear you!
I would love to try to help with that! There is always stuff to do, people to take care of, and never enough hours in a day, Right! My mama tip and trick is a couple things to try!
Tip one is going to be make a to list of the top priorities of that day. Put the need to do first, then the other tasks after, this way the tasks that is not completed that night you can “roll over” to the next day. Giving your self a little less must does will make the ever lasting list look better.
The second tip is multitasking or grouping your chores. If you are in the kitchen while you are waiting on that water to boil, microwave time to go off, see what you can do in that time… can you put some dishes away, sweep the floor, wipe that mystery goop off of the counter. Every thing counts and everything can add up!
The last tip I will give is one I’m trying to get more organized with as my time slots changed after my last baby! But, this is Jordan Page’s block system, I will leave a link below to check it out! This is a good system where you break up your day into slots and each slot is designed for certain things in your day! This way you will not use the whole day up on one task, instead use your day hour by hour or morning, noon, and night. You might focus more or harder on a task if you know there is an hour dedicated to a task.
I hope this will help you find a little more balance in your day, help you tackle the never ending chores, and find some hidden time for “you” stuff.
How do you control your time, get your chores done with everything in between?
Let me know in the comments down below!

Diy Baby Wipes

In the world today of all the hustle and bustle it can be hard to stop, take a step back, look around and just enjoy!
I have made, tried, loved and hated lots of different products. With life as busy as it is with 4 kids, and money being tight from here and there I make a lot of my own stuff. Some of the products are worth it all, and some not at all. However with that said this is one product that I love and will keep making!
This is homemade baby wipes! How much money gets spent on random baby products? Yes you need wipes when you have a kid, but do you need some that are not actually good for the baby! Store wipes I find not to be the best there is alcohol in them, they dry out if left in the vehicle and freezes (As I live in Saskatchewan it’s cold a lot of the year) they are expensive, and just not the best!
With this I have a recipe that is so easy to make, costs so much less then buying them, and work great without drying out the baby’s bottom! Sound like something you are interested in? Then give them a try!
For these wipes all you need is:

  • Select a size paper towel (these just make it even easier)
  • Coconut oil
  • Baby wash
  • Water
  • A bowl to mix it That is all!

How I do it, is a little different then I was taught, it’s just cutting some extra corners to get to my final step! 😉😎
With the paper towel cut in half to make one roll into two! They will be squares now. In your large bowl, add 2 cups hot water for every half of roll of paper towel, so if doing both halves double everything.
Then add 2-3 tablespoons coconut oil.
Then add 1-2 tablespoons baby wash Stir with the hot water until oil is melted and everything is mixed.
Then put the paper towel into the mix and get it all wet, squeeze out excess water, now this is the longest part, unroll the paper towel and layer it.
However you would like I just go back and forth until it’s all layered.
Then just store it in a air tight container or even a large zip lock bag! That is all there is to it, they don’t dry out, and work fantastic!
Give it a try let me know what you think in the comments down below, have you made them before I would love your opinion on it.
Don’t forget to hit the follow button to join in the fun, let me know what DIY Products you would like to make! Till next Diy Tuesday have a great week, try to make your stuff, and save that money!

Let’s Do Another Challenge

It is almost the end of the month, but there is lots of time to challenge ourselves! This week I think is a good week to do a money freeze, and a 1/4 grocery bill! Sound good, let’s save more money this month cause who does not “love” to save money!
So… With this let’s start with the 1/4 grocery bill, it is just what it sounds try to spend a quarter of what you would, this is where our hard work of the meal planning comes in! This is so it’s not a full money freeze. If your normal weekly budget for groceries is $100 then this week aim for $25-$30. When making that grocery list remember the $25 is only for this week, and I know you can do it!
Next comes the money freeze part to it, this is not a full money freeze as we are getting groceries, but it will still help. With purchases other then the  1/4 grocery budget and any bill that are required to be paid this week, there is no spending money!
Say no to that gas station snack, and take out, nails, ECT for 7 days. This will save you more then you will think! It may seem hard but it’s only a week, I know if you want to you can do it!!
I hope you will join in the challenge and have fun with it, till next challenge have fun saving that money.
Leave me any questions below and let me know what will you say no to this week, what meals are you planning to make that grocery budget work. I would love to hear and get ideas, also don’t forget to follow along on It’s A Mom Life, lets inspire each other as we close in the “love” month!

Learning To Meal Plan!!

Hi there and welcome to Its A Mom Life!
For this planning Sunday I thought we could talk meal planning! I would like to share some steps that I take to plan out my meals, and how I do more then one week planning at a time!
When it come to meal planning for multiple week’s this is where I find it helpful to have my freezer inventory done. You can have a pantry inventory done if you want that extra step.
First step is to get your week or week’s written out, I like to use a bright colored sheet, I like to color mine with a highlighter I find a fun paper makes it easier to keep and look at for the extended period of time. I also write my meals into my daily planner as I find this easier to stay on top of making sure my meat or items are pulled out of the freezer the night before or that day.
The next step is to brain storm different ideas, this is why I like to have my freezer inventory sheet. I use a separate peice of paper, write out as much as I can off the top of my head.
Now, it’s just a matter of figuring out what meals you want to eat when and write them in your meal planning! This step can be done all at once or over a couple Day!
That is all there to it, I find this helps in making a grocery list, without going over budget as I know what I need to fill in those meals and snacks.
I hope this helps motivate you to try to meal plan this week, remember start small if you have trouble, try just a couple days, then slowly get bigger with it. Remember any amount that you can do without getting stressed out will make a difference.
So give it a try, let me know are you new at meal planning, got any questions I would love to hear them! I would also love to know what steps you take, if meal planning is something you already do!
Until next Sunday have fun and keep planning! 😁❤

What A Day

Hello, good morning and happy FRIDAY! This is the first chit chat of the blog and I am very excited! Happy day late Valentine’s day, how was your love day?
It was some none stop prep and fun here. With it being what I think a fun holiday, it happens to also be my daughter’s birthday! This means it gets double busy around here. I find myself not only trying to spread the love, but setting up for a party also. With all this it starts early for me! What do you do for the day, make special foods, crafts, games or just chill and relax?
I always end up making heart shaped pancakes for breakfast, with the older ones in school we have a little extra stuff to make sure is packed and ready! Class Valentine’s and treats are always sent from this house. I love making fun goodies for the class they are small classes which helps. This year we had made valentine cards and the class goodies, plus I had made the birthday cake and cupcakes!
So needless to say there was lots of crafts and baking happening here, in between the mom life of two smaller kids still at home.
There is deffently a need for a list… for me anyways. But, I am also a list person any day! If you want to know about some of my routines let me know in the comments, we can do that for a planning day!! Do you make lists or roll with it?
My daughter and I always get flowers from the hubby, I actually make a point of “stopping to smell the roses” when I walk by. A little way to make me stop or slow down even for a slite second!
With the hecticness of Valentine’s Day over, I know find myself realizing I have some catch up to do around the house tho. So little by little I’m getting some tasks done, sceeming to try to get a nap in. 😂
With no school all next week for winter break I thought I would use more of those days for extra catch up, as it’s hard to get a nap in!
Also, on top of it I am getting ready to start some seeds for the garden, with yes more prep and planning!
With all this said I am going to end it here, let me know how you spend and keep you’re sanity and house under control when there is no school? Also, what types of topics should we have here on It’s A Mom Life, I’m hoping to do weekly mom talks, let me know in the comments below! Until next post, have a great day! 😁❤👍
A glimpse at our Valentine’s day and birthday fun!!

❤Valentine’s Day Cards❤

Things sure have changed these days when it comes to Valentine cards! They are not cheap and not what they use to be, what do you think?
This year the kiddos are making the cards for their class! The nice thing about this is that they are super excited about doing it, and we don’t need to come up with a bunch crazy saying (which are not always easy for me), with these Valentine card’s they are just cut, glue and write!
This year I found a couple choices. There were 3 different cards choices, there was a bear with the saying “- I Hope You Have A Bear-y Happy Valentine’s Day,
Spinning heart which I wrote “I Hope You Have A Spinning Valentine’s Day.
Last was a knock knock joke. This has 2 googly eyes and reads:
Knock,Knock,Who’s There
Eyes
Eyes Who
Eye Wanted To Say Happy Valentine’s day.
They were fun to make with the kid’s, I ended up doing extra prep as I just used computer paper and traced out and cut out all the parts because, I ran out of construction paper, and I don’t have a printer. This is why there is some white bears which we said were polar bears. 😂
This was absolutely a fun, inexpensive way to do some unique, fun Valentine cards. These were found right on Pinterest I’ll leave the links below, for you to check them out! I believe they were or some were printable!
Also let me know what did you do for Valentine card’s this year? Did you buy some, have some on hand or make them? We had some bought ones on hand from last year but there wasn’t enough, so both kids are taking the diy ones!👌 Which I think are absolutely adorable!
Hope you find some motivation to have fun and save some money on cards this Valentine’s Day!

Spinning heart- https://pin.it/qx4455lbbtgab5
Knock,knock joke- https://pin.it/mp3mt5vwoo6mgb

The pictures are the supplies or cut outs, then what they look like after. The knock knock one has paper on it just to cover names! Of coarse they all used glue- white glue is what I used and for the spinning hearts we used a hot glue gun to secure it to the paper!❤
